Using usenet binaries rather than Bittorrent was recommended by a friend.  I hadn't used it fora  while but I thought I might as well sign up with a provider to see what I could get.

Wow!  That's fast!

480KB/s pretty much sustained transfer.  Bittorrent rarely gets as high as 40KB/s, and usually hovers around 20KB/s or so.  Probably something to do with the asynchronous bandwidth virgintlewest provide.

So, after about an hour I'd already exceeded the 1GB trial allowance, After two hours I'd downloaded most of the remaining glactica episodes and a couple of episodes of Lost.

Perhaps I should threated to cancel my Cable deal, and see if I get offered a discount for staying.

I'm surprised VoD hasn't become more mainstream.  There's plenty of bandwidth for a standard def video stream here.  Much better quality than Virgin's current overcompressed offering at least.
